AKTA pure is a versatile automated liquid chromatography system for the fast purification of proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules to microgram to gram levels. The system supports a broad range of chromatography techniques, allowing separation based on size, shape, charge, hydrophobicity, and non-covalent interaction. A selection of columns and sample loops are available to AKTA users.


  • Capable of flow rates from 0.001 to 25 mL/min and a max system pressure of 20 MPa
  • Simultaneously monitor three wavelengths between 190 and 700 nm
  • Pre-column and post-column pressure sensors to protect column hardware and resin

    • Superdex 200 Increase 10/300 GL: high resolution, small scale purification of 10 to 600 kDa proteins, analysis of oligomeric state of antibodies and other proteins
    • HiPrep Sephacryl S-200 HR: preparative purification of 5 to 250kDa proteins
  • Ion exchange: 
    • SP Sepharose HP: high resolution strong cation exchange
    • Q Sepharose HP: high resolution strong anion exchange
  • Affinity:
    • HisTrap HP: nickel-charged IMAC for high resolution, his-tagged protein purification
  • 500 µL and 2 mL capillary loops: reproducible, small volume application of sample
  • 50 mL superloop: large volume sample application with minimal sample loss, allows repeated injections without manual intervention


  • Purification of biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids, for subsequent detailed studies of structure, function, and/or binding to other biomolecules
  • Structurally characterize the size, shape, and/or charge properties of a novel biomolecule relative to known standards
